OZEV-grade install · NICEIC certified · DNO notification handled · 26 years on Oxfordshire homes.
An EV charger that just works — on day one and year five.
A wallbox is only as good as the install behind it. Done properly — modern board, correctly sized cable, type-A or type-B RCBO, O-PEN protection, app commissioned and DNO notified — an EV charger should disappear into the background of your driveway and just charge the car, every night, for the next decade.
- What it is
- Supply and installation of domestic and commercial OZEV-grade EV charge points (7.4 kW single-phase and 22 kW three-phase). Includes load assessment, cable run, dedicated RCBO/RCD protection, O-PEN protection or earth-rod, smart-app commissioning and DNO notification.
- Who it's for
- EV-owners and EV-curious homeowners across Oxford, Kidlington, Witney, Banbury and Bicester; landlords adding chargers to rental stock; fleet operators and employers fitting commercial chargepoints; and developers installing EV-readiness on new builds.
- When it's needed
- Before the car arrives is ideal — a charger fitted to a cold driveway is half the price of a rushed install around a delivery deadline. Otherwise: at consumer unit upgrade, during a renovation, when adding solar or battery, or when the granny-cable is no longer enough.
- Why professional
- An EV charger draws sustained 7.4 kW for hours at a time — the heaviest single load most homes will ever see. Done by a non-registered installer, it can overload the main fuse, fail the DNO notification check, void the warranty on the wallbox, and refuse to claim any future OZEV-style grant. NICEIC certification is the only paperwork most insurers and grant schemes will accept.
A cheap EV install costs more than the car charges.
Most of the chargers we’ve been asked to fix were installed by someone not registered for EV work. The patterns repeat: tripping RCBOs, missing earth-rods, no DNO notification, voided warranties.
- Wallbox warranty voided — Ohme, Hypervolt and Easee all require installation by a registered installer with proof of certification.
- DNO refusal — un-notified 7 kW installs can be ordered disconnected after a routine check; commercial 22 kW even faster.
- Main fuse blowing under sustained load — DNO call-out, lost charging window, potentially overnight blackout.
- Fatal shock risk on a TN-C-S supply without O-PEN protection — the single biggest EV-charging safety issue of the last five years.
- Insurance refusal on a house fire claim when the wallbox install can’t produce a certificate.
- Buying a cheap charger online and paying a handyman to ‘wire it in’ — fails on every single one of the points above.
- Re-using a 16A garage socket as a ‘free’ charging point — the socket isn’t rated for the duration and overheats.
- Skipping the load assessment — discovering at commissioning that the main fuse won’t cope.
- Forgetting the DNO notification — perfectly legal install becomes retrospectively illegal.
- Choosing the wrong RCD type — type-AC RCBOs are not compatible with modern EV chargers; type-A or type-B required.

What a proper EV install delivers.
Six concrete outcomes that distinguish a £900 done-right install from a £450 done-wrong one.
Charge speed without tripping
Properly sized cable and RCBO means the charger runs full 7.4 kW (or 22 kW) without nuisance trips, even in summer heat.
Insurance-grade safety
O-PEN protection or earth-rod where supply demands it. Type-A or type-B RCBO matched to the charger. Manufacturer warranty preserved.
Longevity built in
Quality materials, IP65 outdoor accessories, UV-stable cable. A wallbox fitted today should still be charging a 2035 EV.
Cost savings on the bill
Smart tariff setup (Octopus Go, Intelligent Octopus, etc.) — charging at 7p/kWh overnight vs. day-rate 27p+.
Reliable commissioning
App paired, schedule set, OCPP/firmware update applied before we leave — not a 40-minute support call after we’re gone.
Peace of mind
DNO notified, Part P lodged, NICEIC certificate issued — paperwork for the insurer, the buyer, and the next electrician.
What EV charger installation actually involves.
EV installation is a more technical job than its £45 wallbox price suggests. Here’s what’s actually going on inside a properly installed charge point.
Chargers we install
- Ohme ePod & Home Pro (smart-tariff integration)
- Hypervolt Home 3 (UK-designed, IP65, app-controlled)
- Easee One & Charge (load-balancing across multiple bays)
- Andersen A2 (premium, hidden cable storage)
- Project EV / SyncEV commercial bays
- Zappi (PV-diversion for solar households)
Methods & standards
Every install is BS 7671-compliant with a dedicated RCBO (type-A as standard, type-B where the charger requires). On TN-C-S supplies we provide O-PEN protection at the charger or fit an earth rod as the alternative. Cable is sized against installed length and method of installation. DNO notified on the official ENA portal before energising — within statutory 28-day window for 7 kW, prior approval for 22 kW.
Variations of the service
- Standard home install — driveway or garage, 7.4 kW
- Three-phase home install — 22 kW where supply allows
- Landlord/rental EV install with tenant billing setup
- Workplace bay install with OCPP back-end
- Multi-bay commercial install with load balancing
- Solar-diversion install (Zappi or Ohme + PV)
Where this service applies
Driveway installs across the entirety of north Oxfordshire — Kidlington, Yarnton, Begbroke, Wolvercote and the Oxford suburbs; commercial multi-bay installs at Bicester and Banbury trading estates; rental and HMO wallbox retrofits across the wider county.
Home installs are typically single-phase 7.4 kW on a dedicated RCBO with O-PEN protection. Smart tariff configured for overnight cheap rate. Most homes fitted in a single half-day.
Commercial bays are typically three-phase 22 kW with OCPP back-end for billing/reporting and load-balancing where multiple bays share a sub-main. Higher DNO scrutiny — prior approval required, not just notification.
